Very solid effort by the 14U Stingers!  Bronze Medal Finish!

    Improvement in several key areas:
    • Much more aggressive serving - 80.3% of Team Serves were in with an average of 1.81 difficulty. 74 Aces!
    • More Kills - 6.25 Kills per Set vs last Tournament at 5.20
    • More Blocks - 25 vs 18 Last Tournament
    • More Setting Assists - 55 vs 34 Last Tournament
    • Passing was measured differently, so hard to compare - still too many overpasses, but more setting assists means more passes got to the setters!

Round robin we finished 1st and found our form.
First elimination game we cruised through.
Semi-final vs Brant was very close. Can't wait to face them again!
Bronze medal was very exciting with a second game come from behind win to take home the hardware!

Many thanks ladies and parents as it was a great event!

    Best regards,
    Ed, Tanya and Donnette

Championship OVA Tournament - 14U Girls - Windsor
  • Recap
First Tournament at the Championship Level and we found that the teams were far more evenly matched, and that made for far more fun, far closer matches!

The coaches all felt that our Semi-Final against LVC Fire Intensity was like the Gold Medal final for us. Whoever won that match would surely have the momentum to bring it home for Gold!  Alas, LVC beat us in some very close sets. We were up in the second game but they came back and won a deserving victory. It was by FAR the loudest game of the year and it was great to see the 14U Stingers not intimidated at all, but dishing kill after kill right back at LVC.

In the Bronze medal match, the girls ran out of gas...   and we lost in two very close sets.

After all the emotions settled down and the disappointment of losing the Bronze final was over, the coaches thought this was a great tournament for us. We showed clearly that this is the level we belong in and we showed a lot of great team progress.

    Some team stats:
Kills were down slighly from 75 to 63, but Kill Errors were way down from 49 to 33.
Pass Rating went from 2.12 to 2.19 - Most notable serve receive passing improved.
Blocks were down a bit from 25 to 16.
Serve % went up from 80.3% to 80.8%

Your coaches have digested all of this and are building practice plans to improve even more!

    All the best,
    Donnette, Tanya and Ed

Donnette, Tanya and I were really excited to start using our new system, a 6-2, but we knew it would have some growing pains!

We have to say that we did NOT expect them to be worked through as quickly as we did.

Not only did we get some much needed game time with penetrating setters, the adjustments made on the fly for our Serve Receive really worked too. The coaches are really impressed with how much you girls were able to absorb and put into game situations!

The round robin we didn't do as well as we would have liked, but we could see the beginnings of the advantages of our new system. By the time we got to the consolation finals, we were ready to be our loud awesome 14U Stingers again and we won it!

We are really proud of you ladies in how you adapt, play hard, and have crazy fun!!

    Sincerely,
    Donnette, Tanya and Ed

This tournament was one where the girls really had to bounce back from some tough losses.

The morning round robin we came up against some teams who had very strong serves and hitting. As a result we were caught out of system a lot and struggled to put up a good set.

We made some excellent adjustments during the break, adjusting our serve receive in particular, and it paid off for us in the afternoon. In the afternoon we beat two teams that we had lost to in other tournaments, and played very well against the top seed.

We finished 5th for the second OVA tournament in a row, showing that we are very competitive in the Champions tier.

Tanya, Donnette and I are very proud of the way the girls improved throughout the day. It showed some really excellent character!!

    Best regards,
    Tanya, Donnette and Ed

You have to love overnight tournaments!

Our young ladies had a blast hanging out and getting ready for some very tough competition. We were to lowest ranking team in the tournament, with 5 teams ranked in the top 20, and some top tens.

Tanya, Donnette and I were very impressed how we scared the 5th ranked team Burlington Blaze - they beat us, but it was 22-25, and 21-25.

We rallied in the afternoon to take home a 5th place finish. Excellent result given the competition and we feel ready for provincials!

    Cheers,
    Tanya, Donnette and Ed
