Stinger's compete at Provincials
The Stratford Stingers’ 13U volleyball team finished their season ranked 28th out of just over 100 teams in the province. This was a top finish for the Stratford Volleyball Club. The 13U Stingers’ volleyball team finished their season with a loss in the bronze medal match of Division 1, Tier 4 at the Ontario Volleyball Association’s Provincial Championships.

On the first day, the Stingers went 1-2 vs some tough teams in Division 1.  Kylie Jones, Sophie Thomas, Ashlyn Witt and Kiera Michiels played strong defense and helped keep the scores close.  After regrouping for the second day, the Stingers finished 2-1.  Heidi Thomas, Lauren McKay, Ava McMillan and Elissa Marks served tough and passed well.  On the final day, the Stingers won the crucial quarter final match against the topped rank team in their pool to continue playing.  The semi-final match was against the eventual winners, Ottawa Mavericks.  The Stingers played well to keep it close but were unable to secure the win.  Mia McCabe and Julia Marks played strong at the net with some big blocks and timely kills.  The Stingers then played their rivals, the Kitchener Predators, for the bronze.  After being up in both sets, the Stingers couldn’t finish them off and lost a close match 24-26 and 23-25.  Autumn Mikel and Ella Van Bakel played amazing defense to keep the match close.   Coaches Eric McCabe, Natalie Gleadall and Tressa Trachsel were very proud of the girls’ effort all weekend.  “This has been a fun year working with all these girls.  Their effort, positive attitudes and determination to improve showed why they finished in the top thirty in the Province.”
