
U14 Stingers Win GOLD!!!

The U14 Girls Stingers walked away with a Gold Medal, on Saturday January 13, during their Stratford Tournament. What a exciting day for players and fans!
The morning started with pool play with the first game against Waterloo Tigers Black, which was a split game, 17-25, 25-16. In the second match Stratford beat Waterloo Tigers Red 25-20, 25-16 .Third game against Scorpion Gold, another win of 25-15 ,25-20. Stratford finished first in their pool.
In the Quarter Finals they played Woodstock Warriors with the first set ending in a loss 19-25. Second set was a win 25-14, which took them to a nail biting third set. The girls collected themselves and worked hard as a team and pulled off a 15-9 win, which now put the Stratford Stingers into the Semis.
In the Semis, Stratford again was matched up with the Waterloo Tigers Black who came into the tournament ranked second. In the first set Stratford lost 20-25. The second set was a real nail biter but Stratford held their composure and came out with a win, 25-17.
Next came the third set that had everyone on their feet. With great determination, the girls pulled off another win 17-15. Stingers now realizing they were in Gold medal match, with a pep talk from coaches, and a reminder of keeping their composure, they faced a different Waterloo Tigers team. Their nerves getting to them first set, caused a loss of 19-25. Second set the girls set aside their nerves, collected themselves, and pulled off a win of 25-22, which brought them to their third, third set match of the day. Everyone was on their feet cheering. The girls came together and with calmness, perseverance and teamwork, they pulled off a 15-8 win, final game, final hour, 15 sets later. Girls win their first gold medal. This now moves the team into Championship Division.
